Students from Provincial and Demonstration Schools Meet the Minister of Education at Office of the Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth
An amazing group of youth with each of the Provincial and Demonstration schools represented met the Minister of Education Liz Sandals. They were clear, strong, insightful and respectful.
"In my old school l was put in a resource room. I did not know why. I felt like a misfit. At Sagonaska I learned about my learning disability I learned about my anxiety. I learned about me"
"My school (Trillium) opened my eyes as to what A learning disability was. It gives me hope"
"I'm deaf. I would be lost in a hearing school"
The group clearly exposed the inability of the mainstream school system to meet their needs.
They will next meet with Ministry of Education bureaucrats and with MPPs who are interested. They hope to meet the Minister again.
For her part Minister Sandals reiterated no decisions have been made regarding schools closing.
The young people embodied courage speaking their truth and courage in hoping they will be listened to and heard.
